Design and validation of clinical rating scales, patient reported outcomes and Quality of Life data

Quality of Life, Patient Reported Outcomes, Clinical Ratings Scales and Composite Endpoints have important applications in clinical research and practice.  These instruments provide vital measures of the effectiveness of treatment as well as the general well-being and physical and psychological state of the patient.

Many instruments collate responses on a dichotomous (yes/no) or ordinal (poor/average/good) scale.  Validating and analysing instruments comprising dichotomous or ordinal data can prove to be a challenge.  Exploristics employs Rasch analysis, based in item response theory, amongst others to investigate various features of response data.  We offer customers the support from the initial stages of instrument development through to the analysis of data collected on established instruments.

Our services include:

  • Assessment of questionnaire validity, relability, item redundancy, domain structure, response scales (ie Rasch analysis)
  • Associations between clinical and instrument data
  • Differences between treatment groups
  • Longitudinal and cross-sectional analysis of clinical and instrument data
